Reitman Centre for Alzheimer’ Support & Training

The Cyril and Dorothy, Joel and Jill Reitman Centre for Alzheimer’s Support and Training located within the Department of Psychiatry at Sinai Health System and developed with the support of the federal Department of Employment and Social Development Canada, aims both to provide exemplary clinical care to individuals and families and to bring the our model of best practices and accumulated clinical experience to scale through a range of dissemination strategies and the training of healthcare professionals.

Mount Sinai Hospital

Mount Sinai Hospital, part of Sinai Health System, is an internationally recognized 442-bed acute care academic health sciences centre affiliated with the University of Toronto. Clinical strengths include women’s and infants’ health, chronic disease management, specialized cancer care, emergency medicine and geriatrics. Dr. Joel Sadavoy

Dr. Joel Sadavoy, is professor of psychiatry, and full member in the Institute of Medical Sciences in the School of graduate Studies, at the University of Toronto.  He is past Psychiatrist in Chief at Mount Sinai Hospital and now head of Geriatric and Community Psychiatry Programs, inaugural Pencer Family Chair in Applied General Psychiatry, founding Director of the Cyril and Dorothy Joel and Jill Reitman Centre for Alzheimer’s Support and Training and senior clinician scientist in the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute at Sinai Health System.

Dr. Virginai Wesson

Virginia Wesson, MD, MSc, FRCP(C) is a staff psychiatrist at the Sinai Health System, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and a Fellow in Geriatric Psychiatry, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She sees patients of all ages but works primarily with geriatric patients and their families at The Cyril & Dorothy, Joel & Jill Reitman Centre for Alzheimer’s Support and Training, Sinai Health System.

LJ Nelles

LJ Nelles is an educator at the Reitman Centre and has worked as a simulated patient educator in health professions education and licensing for 16 years. Originally trained as a performer, she has extensive experience in film, television and multi-media as a performer, director, producer and content developer. Her doctoral work uses narrative inquiry and performance as research to examine the phenomenology of performance training, empathy, and the embodied knowledge that is a result of practice. LJ is also an interning psychotherapist.
